Course Summary

The Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA) Privacy Final Rule supports access to reproductive healthcare services, giving patients confidence their protected health information (PHI) will remain private. The Office for Civil Rights (OCR) established requirements for protection of PHI by covered entities – including most providers – by December 23, 2024. The rule prohibits the use and disclosure of PHI when a requester is conducting criminal, civil or administrative investigations or looking to impose criminal, civil or administrative liabilities.

Join us to explore the evolving landscape of reproductive health privacy as we navigate the federal updates. We’ll:

  • Provide a Privacy Rule overview and the related operational hurdles
  • Examine ongoing court challenges to the updates, illuminating potential implications for implementation and enforcement
  • Outline state-level legislative trends, as states increasingly propose laws to strengthen or weaken reproductive health privacy protections
  • Offer practical strategies for organizations to adapt policies and procedures ensuring compliance, mitigating risks, and upholding patient trust in this rapidly changing regulatory environment
