The Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA) Privacy Final Rule supports access to reproductive healthcare services, giving patients confidence their protected health information (PHI) will remain private. The Office for Civil Rights (OCR) established requirements for protection of PHI by covered entities – including most providers – by December 23, 2024. The rule prohibits the use and disclosure of PHI when a requester is conducting criminal, civil or administrative investigations or looking to impose criminal, civil or administrative liabilities.

Micki has worked in technology, higher education, and healthcare for 20+ years – assessing, building and transforming privacy and compliance programs in dynamic settings. Micki also has experience with oversight of conflicts of interest disclosure programs, hotline and internal reporting and investigations, annual compliance training, compliance and privacy projects, and excluded-party screening. She earned a JD from the University of Oklahoma College of Law, MPH in health administration and policy from University of Oklahoma Health Sciences Center, and BS in healthcare administration from Northeastern State University.

Elizabeth collaborates with clients to implement evidence-based best practices and oversees thought leadership initiatives. Elizabeth has worked in health information and release of information for 15+ years, covering all industry areas from customer service to compliance. She also worked on the team to create the AHIMA ROI microcredential. Elizabeth earned an MHA with a specialization in health informatics from Capella University, and a BA in political science from Illinois Wesleyan University.

Darin is secretary of AHIOS. He also worked on the team to create the AHIMA ROI Microcredential. Darin earned his Ph.D. in psychology from Northcentral University, and his master’s and bachelor’s degrees in psychology from Fort Hays State University.
